Color Changing Doorbell Finished
I finally finished my doorbell color changer, a modification to a hardware store lighted doorbell using a single RGB LED and an AVR microcontroller. I'll have to write an article about this project later. For now, take a look at the pictures. The night shots really don't do it justice; maybe I'll take some better video as soon as I can track down a tripod.
The shifting hues promise further weirdness inside—ring the bell if you dare!

My plan was to hack into an existing RGB colour changing wand toy, and drive three LED's off that. This would involve possibly running some Cat5 wire to the doorbell rather than the existing doorbell wire.
I have to say, your system is much slicker. I didn't even know they made an RGB LED, but that makes sense.
Does your driver slowly fade from one colour to the next, or blink between colours?
Would you consider posting a schematic and parts list? I know I could follow directions, but I could not design my own circuit from scratch.
Genuinely impressed, and proof positive that if you can think of something, someone else has already done it, and blogged it.
Way to go. While no longer a one-of-a-kind idea, seeing your pictures makes me all the more excited to make my own.
